Strandzha Mountains

Strandja is a unique geographical, historical and cultural region, preserved not only natural resources, but many archaeological sites - remains of different ages, traditions, customs and rites. Located in the territories of two countries Strandja Mountain is not accidentally known as "the place where cultures meet. Millenary civilization has left its traces here - temples, altars, funeral mounds and necropolis, chapels and sacred springs. Many houses have been preserved with their traditional architecture - Brashlyan is declared as an architectural reserve in Malko Tarnovo municipality and other settlements.
Strandja Park is the largest protected natural area in Bulgaria and the only Bulgarian territory included in the five priority areas for conservation in Central and Eastern Europe. It is to protect unique ecosystems and biodiversity, and to retain the Strandja folklore, culture and historical heritage. Over the mountain passes the second largest migratory path of birds in Europe - Via Pontica. In Nature Park Strandja meet unique and rare plant species, some of which are listed in the Red Data Book. The total number of plant species is 1665 types - Strandzha zelenika, Strandzha blueberry, yew, heather, kaluna and many others. The range of climatic factors, the characteristics of geographical location and topography, are contribute to separate and maintain a great variety of natural habitats. Their total number is 121 - in this indication park is first among the protected areas in Europe.
